Blog 6 perspective of Judge Taylor

I knew that if there was any person that could make the jury think it would be Atticus Finch, if there was anyone that could make them see the unmorality of this case it would be him. I remember that night when he was sitting outside and I walked up to him and offered him the case. I was surprised that he accepted it considering he had nothing to loose if he rejected, but not that I'm complaining I'm happy he took the case this way everyone will see through the web of lies that man of evil, Bob Ewell, everyone in Maycomb knows that when that man gets drunk there no telling what he will do and in this case I think the thing the blew his top was his own blood flesh, his oldest daughter Mayella Ewell, I reckon she did something that really got him mad enough to do something to his own daughter that she would blame it on a poor Blackman, if anything this was the worst case of social inequality I've ever seen, the worst case of prejudicem I ever had the predicament to be judge of. I had waited all summer for this case to happen and when it finally started I wish I had never asked for it, I know that the attorney Gilmer is a good attorney at that but Ill be surprised if they loose, even though Atticus can make them think thoroughly of the unfairness of it they will still convict him even though he is innocent, I know that he will convicted because of his skin color, I know that he will loose no matter how good Atticus was, if this had been any other white person Atticus would have won hands up, I was truly motivated when Atticus gave his last and final speech, I realized that Atticus worked his heart out on this case he and his family that is jem and Scout had truly been affected by it from the children to grown aldults making their life's misery, I just hope they don't suffer too much.................

I was surprised when Aunt Alexandra came to visit us, I was even more surprised to see how heavy her bag was, Aunt Alexandra had come for a supposed visit, but when I was carrying her bags, I thought that they were too heavy for a visit that was just a couple of days, but then again Aunty Alexandra was a heavy packer, yet this was heavy even for her, maybe it was just me, as soon as I got to the guest roomed, my suspicions were realized as the bags dropped with a dull, sullen sound of permanence. I was surprised at how many people brought over cakes and coffee for her. As I went around town I herd talk about how Aunt Alexandra had come to be our motherly figure, I was surprised when I got home and I saw them all in a circle around each other I knew that this wasn't just for me if anything it was more for scout so that she would become more lady like and as she got more and more into the idea of having to wear dresses to Aunty's Parties she was become more like her well maybe it weon't change her that much well maybe a little I mean she'll still be the same wont she shell play games with me and act like she always had wont she?

Perspective of Atticus
I was at my office when my assistant old me that my maid had called me, I immediately told her to pass me her. As soon as I said yes , I heard cal yelling “Mr. Finch, this is Cal, I swear to god there's a mad dog down the street a piece- he's coming this way” and I asked her are you sure? She said “ yes sir , he's – Mr. Finch, I declare he is- old Tim Johnson, yes sir...... yes sir.......... yes-” Then she hanged the telephone. I asked Heck Tate for a ride and told him about the mad dog. As soon as we got there we saw Cal running towards the house. We got out and headed for the front porch. When we got to the porch Jem opened the door. I said stay inside son, then I turned towards Cal and asked her where he was. She said he ought a be here by now. I asked Heck if we should go after him. He said we'd better wait. I said don't think he'll go into the Radley place, the fence will stop him, hell continue down the road. When I saw him I said there he is. I told Heck Tate that he was within range, I said you'd better get him before he goes down the side of the road – Lord knows who's around the corner, I told Cal to go inside. I was surprised when Heck Tate turned to me and said you take him. I told him to stop wasting time and shoot. He responded this is a one shot job. I responded by saying, Don't just stand there, Heck, he wont wait for you all day.- He argued back look where he's at Mr. Finch, if I miss it'll go straight into the Radley Place , I cant shoot that well and you know it. I angrily shouted I haven't shot a gun for almost thirty years- he interrupted and shoved the rifle into me and said id feel mighty comfortable if you did know if you did know. I then took the gun and walked into the middle of the street, I raised my glasses and pushed them onto my forehead, but they slipped down and dropped them onto the ground. I heard them crack and I rubbed my eye and chin and then blinked hard. All of a sudden I raised the gun and quickly pulled the trigger and.........

Journal #3- Chapters 8-9 from the perspective of Ms.Maudie

Journal 3
Ms. Maudie

I can’t say I was shocked when we heard Mrs. Radley died, no one really ever saw her except when she was outside watering her cannas. I was perplexed when I was invited to her house for a final good bye. I was even more confused when she entrusted me with her cannas. I isolated myself so I could think about the events that had just happened. I had always been more of an acquaintance with Mrs. Radley. I walked up to her for one last time to pay my respects when I say a shadow in the back room, not wanting to be left alone with possibly Arthur “Boo” Radley I left.

I went to bed that night, thinking over my day. I woke up the next morning to find a horrible event in the making, the temperature changed drastically over the night. I woke up to find snow falling on my plants. I knew that if it got too cold my plants would freeze so I rushed out there to see what I could do. I was in the middle of covering my plants when I called Jem over I told him that if I didn’t cover the plants they would die. I told what he could to help me. I told him to make sure that all my plant were covered up or otherwise they would die. He then he asked me if he could have some of my snow, I told him he could take it all, that there was a peach basket that I could use to carry. I suddenly stoped and asked him for what he wanted it and he said you’ll see.
I slowly watched them carry the snow from my side tot heir back yard and then to their front yard. It was a while later that I realized they had built a snowman replica of Mr. Avery. I then saw him run into my yard and run back to his carrying with what looked liked my garden hat. I yelled at hi to bring it back. Atticus then strolled over to my house and we engaged in an arm waving conversation. The snow stopped in the afternoon, the temperature fell, and every fireplace in Maycomb was lit.
I was awoken by a smell of something burning as I turned I say that the heater I was using for my plants had started a fire, I got out and waited for help, as I waited I saw Jem leading Scout to in front of the radley place. The fire eventually subsided with the help of 3 fire trucks, all I can do now is keep my head high and live happily, I just hope that with a little help I can rebuild my home.

Journal #2- Chapters 4-7 from the perspective of Dill

Dill
I had waited all year for this; I was finally going back to Maycomb County to visit my friends I had made over the previous summer. Their names were Jeremy Finch and Jean Louise “Scout” Finch. They are neighbors of my dear old aunt Rachel. I had gone to visit my aunt the previous summer, and that’s when I met Jem and Scout. We had marvelous adventures that summer. Though I had enjoyed my stay, a figure of darkness’ tyranny had overshadowed my visit. That figure was Arthur “Boo” Radley, he lived in the haunted house. I couldn’t wait till school was over so I could go on the train to Alabama. I live in Mississippi so I’m let out a day later than Maycomb is. As I say good bye to my mom I start to think what news adventures we will have, as I think of all the possibilities, I begin to think of a prank I could pull on those two.
As soon as I arrived in Maycomb I said thanks to the cab driver and was picked up by my aunt Rachel. I went home to see if Jem and Scout were available. They asked about my journey here, I told them a tall tale about how I had met my father. After that they asked what we wanted to play and I said Tom, Sam, and Dick. Scout said she was tired of playing the same ones over and over again, so she told her brother to make one up

Journal #1- Chapters 1-3 from the perspective of Walter C.

Journal Entry One
Walter Cunningham

You know how sometimes you get that feeling in your stomach like something is bound to happen? That’s how I felt when I left our farm to go school, though the sky was cloudy I couldn’t wait, I had gone to school 3 other times, but had to quit to help my family with the farm but now I can go to school. I have never really minded being poor, as far as I can remember all of the Cunninghams have always been poor especially now with the great depression.
Farmers had been hit the hardest with too many things growing and not enough people wanting to but them. My daddy had mentioned something about it to my mum last night. I think he's really worried how we will survive winter. Once I arrived at School I saw that the new teacher was, different to the previous teachers I had. As I enter I see some writing on chalkboard which said that her name was Ms. Caroline Fisher, from North Alabama, Winston County. As I looked for anyone I might have seen in town or new I saw an empty desk, so I went and sat there.
The teacher started class and a girl kept on getting in trouble, finally the teacher said everyone take your lunch out and I thought what she would say when she say I didn’t bring a lunch. After doing a quick scan around the class her eyes finally set upon me, she asked me “Did you forget your lunch this morning? I just shook my head, she then asked me if I wanted to borrow money, once gain I said no, then the red hair girl tried to explain the situation at school yet she got into trouble once again.
After we were excused I was roughly introduced to the ground by the red hair girl, her brother told her to stop and she ceased rubbing my nose against the ground. They then invited me over for lunch, I just said yes and we were off, I wonder what’s for lunch?

What Is The What by Dave Eggers
Review by: Ramon Chavez
I always though that life had it in for me from me being teased about my physical appearance, to me failing class and having to work twice as much to keep up with the rest of my class. I always felt sorry for myself, that was until author David Eggers made me realize that they are things much worse than being made fun of or failing things like the main character in my book, Achack, had to go through. The story of Achak starts out with him in his present day life, in which he lives in a condominium with his friends and goes to school, pretty much like your or anyone’s else’s life. Everything goes downhill when a lady knocks on his door and asks to uses his telephone, unknowingly he allows her in after her attempt to keep the door open. She immediately locks herself in the bathroom, and calls someone, a while after when he goes to check on the lady he’s ambushed by a man who works with the lady in the red dress, Tonya, he is then stolen of his property and is put in place of a young boy.
One of the main reasons I really liked this book was because it made me feel if I was the person he was telling the story to because in between scenes he pretended to be telling the little boy, which he called T.V boy, his story of all the unfortunate things that had happened to him, the story progresses which, Achak when he was a small boy.
The way the book is written, which is a past-present type of change makes you feel more and more anxious about what’s going to happen next. I know that I was personally anxious when he starts to think in his mind all the terrible things that have happened to him. Though he is telling the story of his life he is still conscious that this boy had been involved in the theft of his home. The fact that’s it’s a first person view also makes it really interesting because it’s like the popular phrase “Walk a mile in my shoes” you feel as if you were Achak, as if you had been right alongside him when he went through all of this.
Achak has a very interesting personality because his father was a wealthy business man, and he was son of his father’s first wife. He has a normal boys’ life. He lives with his family, he plays with his friends. As you know nothing last for ever, and that’s when the rebels in Sudan show up in his dad’s store. They ask him if they have any sugar, he asks how much they want and they respond all of it. Achak tells them the price and all they respond is thank you for your contribution. Achaks father tries to stop him but they brutally beat him up. This was one of the many things Achak has seen and experienced.
What is The What is filled with many interesting and thrilling moments but is equally filled with sad, depressing moments. The character seems to come alive as you get closer and closer to the end of the book. You will find things more and more incredible from him escaping the rebels to the long journey he has to endure.
Although there are many other characters Achack is mainly the one that everything seems to happen to, some of the other characters include Achack’s family and his friends it also includes different people he meets along the way good or evil. You get the idea that a small boy wouldn’t last long by himself in Africa, but he endures, being hunted by the rebels, animals, people, and the war.
The larger themes of this book would be about how the war affects everyone, how there are things that we know but that there are also things that we don’t know, that many people immigrate not of their own choice but are forced by certain circumstances, with this themes one can really relate to present day life.
Even though the book is fiction one really believes that he or she is listing to someone tell this story. That is why this is such a great book. It shows that you shouldn’t feel sorry for yourself but feel sorry for those that truly suffer. Once on his journey with a group called the Lost Boys he hopes to finally reach a safe and sound sanctuary.
In a moment things can go from great to worse, so you should enjoy life while you can, though to find out if Achack ever recovers what he once lost, his life and his family, if he ever reaches the end of his journey you’ll have to read the book.

Immigration Project Reflection

Immigration Project Reflection

Part 1

My experience with the Lit circle was not all that great, I was confused in some part but otherwise it is a really well written book, I enjoyed it very much. I had some trouble with the commenting and the posting of the responses because of technical problems. I was not necessary ecstatic about my book but I didn’t hate it. I was happy to have been assigned this book because it really tells a lot about the human nature like what people can and will do to another living person without think of their past or what a person might be going through.

Well there were a lot of significant events and scenes that occurred in my book but I think Ill go with the one I chose for my painting, the scene I had chosen was at the very beginning, the scene included the main character, Valentino, and 3 other characters. The scene starts out with valentine opening the door when he hears a knock, once he opens it he finds a lady with a red dress in his front steps, she ask him if she can use his telephone because her car broke down, he tries to close the door, but she puts her foot in the way and ask him again this time he lets her in right away she locks herself in the bathroom with the telephone, while distracted her accomplice comes from behind and hits Valentino. The book I read is what is the what by Dave Eggers. I learned that my group sometimes have difficulties understanding one another because we didn’t have like set chapters and so I was confused.

I feel that if I had finished on time and showed to Ms. Abbassi, I would have found out that many people were doing scenes of him in Africa, so I had to recreate the drafts to fit when he was in America. I think that was the only difficulty I experienced during the draft process and the painting process. I think that overall my painting was really good because I had some really good examples to base it off of, I also included parts from one of my prior homes. I was surprised how well the actual sidewalk and grass came out because I thought it was going to be a lot messier than it was.

I personally like the Lit Circle groups better when we had to write them instead of having to do it on the blogs because it just make the whole process much harder that it has to be, I would add teachers know where everyone is at or if they have any difficulties. I would also take out the character analysis because it really isn’t needed or you could just have them focus on the reactions to what the characters do.

Part 2

I had originally had chosen a scene from when the main character in his home town when the rebels had decided to attack the shops and kill innocent people all for no reason. I had drawn some buildings on fire, and I also people dead and an helicopter. I had to change my scene because since it took in Sudan allot of people were already doing scenes there. My new scene included Valentino in America when he was opening the door to see a last in a red dress in his front steps. I had originally for my 3 sketches had chosen the book cover, the scene that struck me and my last one had been a interpretation of the scream.

I think the connection in between my painting and my book might be a little hard to understand unless you look at it carefully, my painting is very deceiving. I think for me the connection was really clear and it was easy to understand.

I feel that my final product of my painting turned out really well except for the fact that there 1 or 2 things here and there that I could have fixed if I had taken more time and been a bit more careful. I think otherwise my final product of my painting turned out really well because it did look realistic the colors complemented each other and so did the scheme. I think the interpertation of Edwards’s hopper summertime is really shown in my painting.

I think that taking more time and bit more careful it would have turned out better.

I learned that quality and punctuality are really important life skills because with out them ones work will never go anywhere and neither will the maker go anywhere. I have been told the quality is better than quantity.

Part 3

Well, the interview process was a bit shaky from the beginning especially because the person I was supposed to interview was always busy, or couldn’t meet. So I was forced to conduct almost the whole project through email and when I did sent it to her she took a while to respond. The process was difficult because we had trouble with the communication part of the project.

I thought that the overall idea was really good but I think that it would had been easier if the person had been more accessible or if there had been a planed meeting schedule so we could have done it without all those difficulties. I also liked the idea of doing the 3 different methods because it was a really cool way of finding out the information like hearing them or seeing them and getting to get closer to them.

Well from the first interview I learned that she has a very interesting first impression of the U.S, she said, USA a big country, with lots of open space and rural areas – a contrast to Hong Kong which is a large city but very crowded with a high population and not much open space. People seemed wasteful – they drive large cars that use a lot of gas (in Hong Kong, most people use public transport like bus, taxis, underground trains), they use a lot of disposable things like paper ware. There are many overweight people, and portions of food are huge – most Chinese people tend to be thin and when we eat, we typically share two or three dishes. But the country is generally very clean and well organized. For the second interview I learned the necessary items, like where she was born when and what states she’s lived in. For the third interview I learned that more personal information like her favorite music, if she’s married or if she has any children.

imigration

Reflection
To me the definition of an immigrant is a person that comes from another country that come looking for a better way of life. To me an immigrant is a person who is willing to sacrifice all to make something of them selves. To me an immigrant is a person who risks it all for his family. That is what the word immigrant means to me.
My connection to immigration is that I immigrated from México to the U.S when I was 5. I also have relative over both borders to the north and to the south.
I have many friends and family who are immigrants starting with me. I myself am an immigrant, I was born in Mexico and came over to the U.S when I was 5, and my parents are also immigrants. My cousin and her family are also immigrants.
I think many immigrants come to the United States for one of two reasons, one they want to come over here to start a new life for his or her family and want to start all over, or secondly they have a relative over here.
We see the effect of immigration everywhere, from homeless persons to gangs, we see the way people treat immigrants.
